Exclusive Interview: Natalie Hall of 'Star-Crossed'

Natalie Hall plays the feisty Taylor in the new hit series Star-Crossed. You may have also seen her in Pretty Little Liars, All My Children and various other roles on TV and Broadway.

I had the pleasure of talking with her about her acting career and her latest role as Taylor. Get to know Natalie in our exclusive interview below!

How old were you when you first started acting? Did you always know you wanted to go into acting?

I always knew I wanted to be a performer from a very young age. My mom was a dancer, so she put me into dance lessons when I was three. I also started singing. Then, I moved to New York when I was eighteen and started doing musical theater there. I transitioned into film acting later on in life when I was about 18 or 19.

So,  did you do sing and dance as an after school activity?

I did about 30 hours a week of dancing, so I was very intense about it. I went to the London School of Dance when I was 16.

Did anyone/anything inspire you to become and actress? Or was this something you always knew you wanted to do long term?

Well, I grew up in the mountains of Canada. My brothers played hockey, my dad was in business, and my mom was a dancer so it wasn't like I grew up in a family of performers or directors. But, when I was 14 or 15 I saw Kristin Chenoweth perform the song "Girl in 14g" where she was singing, dancing, and acting. It was that moment when I knew that is what I wanted to do, all three things put into one. I was Val in "A Chorus Line" and I realized that I  really loved to act. The TV acting came a little later in life.

Is there anyone that you consider a role model in your life in the entertainment industry or other?

I love Jane Fonda. She is so much more than an actress to me. She is so passionate about her charity and she does so much for other people. From running backstage to writing books, she is just somebody I aspire to be like. She is a beautiful person.

So more on Star-Crossed, how did you find out about the audition and were you nervous/excited for it?

I live in New York and they were holding auditions for the pilot. I read the script and thought it was interesting. I originally tried out for a different role, and they responded an hour later asking if I would audition for the role of Taylor. I had to learn new dialogue, put myself on tape, and get it to them in an hour. Then, during a Broadway play I was seeing, I got a text saying I needed to get on a plane. I got on a flight to LA, and honestly, I wasn't really that nervous. There was so much happening, but I was very prepared and ready for the role.

You play the role of Taylor and she seems like the "Queen Bee" of the school, do you relate to her in any way?

No. It's so funny because I feel like  people often think that you are supposed to be like your character. I understand my character because I wasn't her and I saw those girls in school. I think when you're on TV and you're that bitch, you don't know it. But when you are the outside looking in you can be like "oh! that is what a bitch is." I was not like her growing up. I had acne and headgear. I was not a popular girl. I was not the Queen Bee AT ALL.

What has been the highlight of your career so far? 
I feel like every role I take on is a highlight. Every character I take on is a different chapter, a new opportunity to challenge myself. There hasn't been a specific thing that has been the highlight of my career yet, but I wish there was. I think though that is what keeps you going. If I had a highlight, I feel like I wouldn't want to continue on, but every job experience I have done is a new challenge, which I like.
