Raw, Uncensored Photographs Reveal The Ups and Downs Of Motherhood
Based in New York City, renowned photographer Elinor Carucci recently published a thought-provoking and poignant series of pictures titled “Mother” that took 9 years to create.
Giving the viewer a raw and uncensored look at the “pains and pleasures of motherhood”, the series is inspired by the art historical Virgin Mary—some of the shots’ compositions are reminiscent of Renaissance paintings of the divine virgin.
Capturing intimate moments she had with her children, Carucci bares both her life and her body in these images, and brings attention to the powerful experience of being a mother.
This photo series would be on display at New York’s Edwynn Houk Gallery until 3 May 2014—you can view more images from “Mother” on the photographer’s website.
