Song Seung Hoon Says He Learned A Lot From Filming His First Bed Scene in Obsessed [1],[2] (Korean title Human Addiction)
By Julie Jones
The film "Obsessed" concerns a dangerous and obsessive love affair between a Vietnam War era officer and the wife of his junior officer. So it would be hard to imagine without some serious skinship.
The actor knew there would be a bed scene when he read the script but he thought he could wear a bathing suit, which is what actors usually do during drama shower scenes. But then the director asked if he could shoot the scene completely nude.
"I was a bit shocked, said Song Seung Hoon in an interview with @star1 magazine. "But I figured if I was going to do it, I should do it right, so we filmed with nothing on."
He always expected that sooner or later he would have to film a bed scene like that and wondered if he could do it. He was pleased to see that he could.
"After we filmed it, I felt as if I broke through some inhibitions and I threw out all the concerns that I had," he said. "I felt a lot lighter."
The hardest part of filming the scene was doing so in a room full of people.
"If you've never done anything like that, you can't imagine the feeling," he said.
But the crew and director were so focused on their work that he did not feel uncomfortable for long. It stopped feeling odd.
The other part that might have been very uncomfortable was that he had to do the nude scene with an actress he had not previously met. But then he realized that it must have been even more difficult for Lim Ji Yeon, the rookie actress who played his young lover. So he walked up and casually introduced himself before filming started. It broke the ice.
After the scene was filmed, he realized that although it was hard to shoot, such scenes were just another part of being an actor.
"I learned a lot," he said.
Overcoming his fears about filming a nude scene helped him to grow as an actor and he hopes to see his efforts reflected in the film's positive reviews.
